IBOM TROPICANA REVAMP: GOV. UMO ENO’S TOURISM MASTERPLAN

By Ekemini James

In his determination to consolidate on the achievements of previous administrations as promised in his electioneering campaign, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has taken a bold step to reclaim and complete the long-abandoned Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre.

This move is another proof of his dedication to sustaining and completing all uncompleted projects initiated by past administrations for the benefit of Akwa Ibom people.

Reviving this infrastructure further shows that, Governor Eno has the best interest of Akwa Ibom people at heart. He is already repositioning Akwa Ibom State for the next generation by creating jobs for young people, making the state a tourism destination, and growing the state’s economy.

Govenor Eno’s vision to revive this project is a step in the right direction, owing to the fact that the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, with its theme park, hotel, and International conference facility, has the potential to become a tourist hub and a significant revenue generator for the state.

While undertaking an inspection tour of the Theme Park, the 14 storey Tropicana Hotel building and the 5000 capacity Conference facility at the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, the Governor said, “This is Akwa Ibom money and so my duty as Governor is to protect the assets of Government, life and property of the people. Government has sunk in so much money here and so I believe we can look at it.

“For me, what is important, going forward, is how we can reclaim this place and make it functional. Behind us is an International Conference Centre. People come here for conferences and conventions. I understand we were named Tourists State of the Year 2023, and when people see your efforts and recognize you for doing something, it means they expect more from you,” he added.

This move also demonstrates his willingness to build on existing infrastructure, rather than duplicating efforts. His leadership and determination to complete this project will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the economy and the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Furthermore, the Governor’s bold move to revive the Ibom Tropicana is a proof of his administration’s passion for progress and development. This commendable gesture will serve as a model for effective governance and infrastructural development in the state.
