Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu has been re-elected as the governor of Lagos State for a second term. Sanwo-Olu, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won in 19 out of the 20 Local Government areas of Lagos State. Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to beat his closest rival, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, LP, who scored 312,329 votes in the election. LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY: NOLLYWOOD STAR, DESMOND ELLIOT WINS 3RD TERM

Nollywood star, Desmond Olusola Elliot, was on Sunday, declared winner of the election for the Surulere (I) State Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Elliot polled 17,837 votes to win a 3rd term in the Saturday, March 18, 2023 election. Adebayo Bode of the Labour Party (LP), polled 7,822 votes, while Thomson Sulaimon of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) received 1,045 votes. Elliot was first elected into the LSHA in 2015.

EX-EKITI STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR, BISI EGBEYEMI DIES AT 78

A former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi is dead. He was 78. Egbeyemi, the immediate past deputy governor of between 2018 and 2022, reportedly died around 8pm on Friday after a brief illness. Egbeyemi’s last public appearance was on February 25, during the presidential and National Assembly election. A close ally to Egbeyemi disclosed that the former Deputy Governor died at a private hospital in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

INEC POSTPONES GOV, ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN 10 LAGOS POLLING UNITS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections in 10 polling units in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) around the Lekki area of the state. INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Segun Agbaje made the announcement when he addressed reporters at the VGC. According to him, corps members deployed as ad hoc staff on Saturday were hesitant to enter the VGC estate as they alleged that they were held hostage in the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
