The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano on Wednesday received a certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission for his victory in the November 18 election in the state.
The event took place at the INEC Secretariat in Awka, the state capital
Obiano won the election with 234, 071 votes. Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress came second with 98, 752 votes.
The certificate was handed over to him by the INEC National Commissioner in charge of legal services, Mrs May Agbamuche, who represented the National Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu .
Speaking, Obiano thanked those who made the election a success, especially President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said did not interfere in the electoral processes.
He assured the people of the state that he would not fail in the confidence reposed in him.
He said, “This is the moment; I’m very happy to be here with my deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke to pick our certificates of return to run the affairs of the state for the next four years “
“I thank God for the miracle of 21 over 21, and I sincerely thank our president, Muhammadu Buhari for allowing a free and fair election “
“I want to assure that APGA will be a formidable force in the political space in Nigeria from now on. “We are going to make sure that Anambra continues to shine, I and my deputy are not going to fail the people of Anambra; we are going to work harder in making sure that our victory would not be in vain”.
Moments after the event, Governor Obiano took a victory lap around the state capital Awka, to say “thank you” to the people. The victory march, took him through major streets up to Eke Awka Market where the traders trooped out en-masse and chanted praises on his great victory.
