Armed robbers have reportedly a field day at the Abia State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery both in Aba, as they have raided the schools located adjacent the Aba Area Command of the Nigeria Police three times within the past one week.
It was gathered that the gunmen struck first at the School of Nursing about 1.00am last Wednesday when the students had gone to sleep, harassed and made away with their valuables including phones, wrist watches, gold necklaces, hand chains and cash.
The robbers allegedly attacked the school again the next day and stayed there unchallenged, ransacking the luggage of the students. Then penultimate Friday, the men of the underworld equally raided the nearby School of Midwifery and stole many valuables of the students and fled. Sources within the school who pleaded anonymity for fear of being victimised said they only have God to thank as none of the students was raped during the robbery incidents. They, however, lamented the losses they suffered in the series of attacks.
Some of the students told Sunday Sun that if nothing was done to stop the incessant robbery attacks on their hostels, they may be considering relocating out of the school’s hostel, which they claimed had become unsafe for them to live even though it is located close to the Aba Area Command of the Nigeria Police.
The Public Relations Officer of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba, Mr. Joe Onwuka, described the robbery incidents as unfortunate, adding that the management of ABSUTH was working out plans to avert a recurrence.
