There is this tragic story which is presently making the rounds in the Coal City, and even beyond, about how Amarachukwu Emmanuel Ugwu, a quiet and amiable young man who was a pioneer in the Nigerian home-movie industry, mysteriously gave up the ghost on Saturday, March 31st, 2018, reportedly after sustaining some injuries, some days before, on Thursday, March 29th.
There are conflicting reports as to what could have caused the untimely death of Amarachukwu, popularly called Amaral by his friends. While some say that he was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle, and died later, others maintain that the deceased slumped during a late-night encounter with a vigilante group guarding the area who accosted him on his way home on that fateful Thursday. Whatever may have really happened that night, Amarachukwu was later rushed to a hospital where he passed away on the last day of March, 2018.
But perhaps the most interesting surmise by another school of thought as to the probable cause of death is that he may have had a scuffle with the neighborhood watch members in his area, Maryland, and when he slumped, the vigilantes may have given out that he was hit by a speeding vehicle, to explain his injuries, and thereby save their necks.
According to our sources, Amarachukwu, a native of Umueze in Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State, had acted in several early Nollywood flicks, though he left the industry after some time to conclude his Engineering studies at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). He later registered his own engineering outfit, and was the Project Engineer/CEO of Emra-Silver Integrated Services Ltd., a firm which specializes in project management, building, site supervision, house renovation, safety services, agricultural services, haulage, procurement, and general contracting.
Amaral used to live with his parents, who are still both alive, in the Uwani suburb, before he got married and got an apartment, where he lived with his wife, at Maryland, also within the Enugu metropolis. His wife, neighbours said, is presently with child.
Details are still sketchy at this point, and it is unclear whether any arrest has been made regarding the mysterious death. We will update you as events unfold.
