MTN FOUNDATION CHANGES LIVES OF FIVE HUNDRED OYO STATE YOUTH

The lives of five hundred young people in Oyo State has changed forever, all thanks to MTN Foundation’s ICT and Business Skills Training For Youths In Oyo State.

The two-day training which was the pilot phase of the initiative, held on Thursday and Friday, June 28th and 29th, 2018 at the Olola Ogunlana Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Hundreds of participants around Oyo State attended the training.

Many notable dignitaries dropped by during the course of the training. Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga, Director, MTN Foundation, an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, gave the Foundation’s speech at the Training. She encouraged the participants to focus on all that would be said.

The Honourable Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu came around to show his support and drop words of encouragement. He thanked MTN Nigeria for the initiative and stressed how ICT was taking over the stage of business.

Also, the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Niyi Ajao (representing the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi), encouraged the participants to actively engage in the programme.

The training sessions were handled by expert facilitators from ecosystem partners – KPMG, Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), IBM and Oracle.

Mr. Adepegba Oduntan of Oracle, taught on technology of the future and how to position one’s self for business in the future. Mr. Paul Okhiria of Oracle took over form his colleague and broke down ICT for the participants.

Mr. Emeka Nzeih of DBI spoke on leveraging ICT tools for business promotion, while Mr. Tobi Ogunbadejo of KPMG helped them understand social media and how to use it to optimize business opportunities.

Mr. Femi Oso of IBM gave the lowdown on the business side of ICT and the participants had a field time practicalizing his questions and setting up personas.

After the intensive training from the facilitators, the participants were divided into group where they brainstormed through real life questions to give ICT and Business solutions. The presentation by the participants had the hall cheering after each group.

There was also the ‘Selfie Challenge’ which had the participants snapping away during the break. The the selfie winners got their gifts – a mifi worth Fiffteen Thousand Naira.
