WE’RE NOT OWING STAFF SALARIES-FIDELITY BANK

Contrary to allegations that the protest which disrupted activities yesterday at the business office of Fidelity Bank Plc, was carried out by staff who were allegedly owed salaries, the Bank has come out to refute the claim, saying it does not owe staff salaries, severance packages or gratuity payments.

According to the Bank, the protesters were drivers who were disengaged from one of their vendor companies.

Even at that, Fidelity Bank stated that “the protesting drivers, had been paid their severance packages and entitlements by their employers” and wondered why they embarked on the action which “prevented innocent customers from carrying out their banking transactions”.

In a statement signed by the Divisional Head, Brand & Communications, Mr. Charles Aigbe, the Bank said it was a responsible financial institution operating in Nigeria and guided by the laws of the land.

Mr. Aigbe who said that the actions were clearly unwarranted and misdirected, vowed that Fidelity Bank, “will initiate legal measures to put a stop to this corporate harassment”. He urged the relevant authorities including the Nigeria Police to note that the protest was a threat to the conduct of the Bank’s legitimate business.
