DEPUTY SPEAKER’S IMPEACHMENT: POLICE TAKES OVER EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The Police have this morning, taken over the Edo State House of Assembly complex in Benin City, the state capital.

Dozens of the security officials stormed the complex on Thursday morning while patrol vehicles were stationed there.

We gathered that the police took the action following a reported threat of an attack on the facility.

The police officers were led to the Assembly by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ayoola Ajala.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday, the Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and the lawmaker representing Akoko-Edo Constituency I, Hon. Yekini Idiaye, was impeached by the members loyal to Governor Obaseki for his (Idiaye’s) support for the APC candidate in the September governorship election, Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

On Wednesday also, the House had elected Hon. Roland Asoro, the member representing Orhionmwon II Constituency as the new Deputy Speaker.
