The remains of late Senator Buruji Kashamu, will be interred at his Ijebu Igbo country home in accordance with Islamic rites, today Sunday, 9th August, 2020, by 12 noon.
A statement signed by his Media Adviser, Mr. Austin Onyiokor stated that the Shodipe Kashamu family of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, had officially announced that the Senator died on Saturday at the age of 62 at a private hospital in Lagos, after a brief illness.
Meanwhile, prominent Nigerians have been mourning the death of the late lawmaker.
Former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku in a Tweet yesterday said, “My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of late Senator Buruji Kashamu. May the Almighty Allah accept his soul, forgive his shortcomings and heal the loved ones he left behind”.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State in a statement, called Kashamu a worthy Ambassador of the state. In his words, “Distinguished Senator Kashamu was a phenomenon, he was faithful to his principles and convictions and even his critics would attest to his tenacity of purpose. Our brother and friend was a consummate politician and patriot who will be sorely missed within and outside Ogun State for his larger than life disposition. Posterity will accord him his due recognition for his legacies of service and forthrightness. He was a worthy Ambassador of Ogun State“.
Similarly, his running mate in the Ogun State gubernatorial election and former Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati in a tribute said he owed his political tutelage to the late Senator.
According to Abati, “I am completely heartbroken. Senator Buruji Kashamu was my political mentor. Now he is dead at the relatively young age of 62. I feel like an orphan all over again. I may have worked with the PDP government at the federal level, but he was the man who brought me into direct, partisan politics. He was one of the most generous men that I have ever known. He was determined to groom me and he did. He taught me the ropes. He linked me with the grassroots. I learnt a lot from him”.
