NIGERIA’S OLDEST SURVIVING SURVEYOR, ALHAJI LASUPO ALI DIES AT 99

Alhaji(Chief) Lasisi Lasupo Ali, the oldest surviving surveyor in Nigeria, has died.

He died on Tuesday, 1st September, 2020, in his hometown, Ibadan, Oyo State. He was aged 99 years.

In his royal condolence message to the Ali Family of Oke Odo Area, Ibadan, delivered by Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland who was accompanied by Chief Moshood Akere, Mogaji Akere Family, Oja ‘Ba-Oritamerin Area, Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso 1, commiserated with the Ali Family and prayed that God would grant repose to the soul of the icon and statesman.

Olubadan Adetunji recalled that the late Surveyor Ali and his co-pioneers of the surveying profession in Nigeria, operated with great dedication, integrity and creativity.

In his response, the eldest child of Surveyor Ali, Pharmacist Abiodun Ali, thanked the Olubadan for his condolence and prayers. He promised that his family would follow the traditional norm of breaking his father’s death formally to the Olubadan Palace.

The late Surveyor Ali attended the famous Government College, Ibadan(1938 to 1943), and studied surveying at the Higher College, Yaba, Lagos State and the old School of Surveying, Oyo Town, Oyo State. He began his professional career in Ibadan in 1953.
