The remains of Nigeria’s first Professor of Statistics, Prof. James Nwoye Adichie, will be laid to rest in his home town, Abba, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State on Friday, 9th October, 2020.
A statement issued by Chuks Adichie, on behalf of the family, said the funeral rites will commence with a vigil mass on Thursday, 8th October, at Professor Adichie’s compound, Umueri, Ezi-Abba village, Abba.

The remains will then be interred on Friday, October 9th, after a requiem mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Abba.
Professor Adichie, who holds the traditional title of “Odelu ora” Abba, received his PhD in statistics from the University of California-Berkeley, and went on to become Nigeria’s first professor of statistics in 1976, with his dedicated life’s work done at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he was named professor emeritus in 2016.
Late Prof. James Nwoye Adichie who died on June 10, 2020 at the age of 88 is the father of renowned writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
