GUNMEN OPEN FIRE AT PROTESTERS IN LAGOS

.SANWO-OLU ORDERS PROBE

Three hours before the 9pm deadline given by Governor Sanwo-Olu to enforce the 24-hr curfew he imposed on the state on Tuesday, yet to be identified gunmen, opened fire on protesters at the Lekki toll gate sending panic all over the country.

According to those on the ground at the time of the incident, the gunmen started firing after lights were cut off at the area followed by disabling of the CCTV cameras which covered the toll gate.

Several witnesses at the Lekki toll gate where the protesters have been protesting for nearly two weeks have shared videos and photos from the alleged genocide.

Although the casualty figure is yet to be ascertained, many are pointing accusing fingers on men of the Nigerian military forces.

In the past two weeks, the Lekki toll gate has been a major cluster point for the #ENDSARS protesters.

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu has frowned at the incident and has ordered an investigation into reports of live ammunition fired at peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza this evening.

The State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement, said the shooting would be investigated immediately.

Omotoso said the Governor has also advised the security agents not to arrest anyone on account of the curfew, which he urges residents to observe for the peaceful atmosphere “we all cherish”.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had announced a 24-hour curfew, effective 4 p.m. Tuesday. The timing of the enforcement of the curfew was later moved to 9pm, to enable workers and commuters to return to their homes.
