On-Air Personality, Toke Makinwa has been ordered to pay the sum of One million Naira to ex husband, Maje Ayida for defamation of character.
The Lagos State high court, Igbosere, ruled that Toke used derogatory words used in her book ‘On Becoming’, a ‘tell all’ book she published in 2016, detailing her 14-year old relationship to fitness trainer Maje Ayida.
Toke had written the ‘tell all’ book after her marriage with Maje packed up. In the book, Toke claimed that Maje was a serial cheater and the one who crashed their marriage.
The court in its judgement, found lines 11-16 of page 54 and line 1 of page 83, offensive and defamatory.
It therefore ordered payment of damages of the sum of 500,000 Naira each to be paid by the 1st and 2nd defendants to any charity organization of the claimant’s choice.
Toke was also barred from producing further copies of the book with the defamatory words in pages 54 and 83 as the court gave the defendant 30 days from its judgment to delete and remove said defamatory words from unsold copies of the book in the defendant’s custody.
