The defections in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is taking second stage right now as two of its governors battle each other over security challenges in their states.
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, started the war yesterday when he called for a state of emergency to be declared on Benue State.
Wike said Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, was one of those who politicised insecurity in the country, which has now degenerated to consume his state.
According to Wike, Ortom had lost control and lacked the capacity to stand up for his people.
Gov. Wike spoke on Thursday while addressing members of the University of Port Harcourt Governing Council, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Wike said that Ortom was in the league of APC governors, who plotted a state of emergency against Rivers State when it (Rivers) had security challenges.
But Ortom has reacted in kind, saying “the killings in Rivers were greater than that of Benue”.
Ortom said: “It is laughable when I read Wike’s report, it is unfortunate that someone of his status will be making such outburst because there are more killings in Rivers than Benue.
“In Rivers, there is no rule of law but here in Benue there is rule of law, that is why we have taking proactive steps to stop the Fulani herdsmen attacks on our people.”
How the PDP high echelon will intervene in the messy fight between their two Governors remains to be seen.
