Senate Chief Whip and South East leader of the APC Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, on Sunday, visited Governor of Ebonyi State and new member of the ruling All Progressive’s Congress (APC), Engr. David Umahi in Abuja.
Insiders say the meeting came on the heels of the widespread rumour that Umahi’s entry into APC, and the hype that President Buhari was the one who drafted him in with the intention to work for his presidential ambition, was an affront on Kalu, who is already known to be eyeing the ticket of the party for the 2023 election.
Although Kalu stated that a previous national assignment had prevented him from attending Umahi’s official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC held in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, on Thursday, November 19th, the media and political pundits have interpreted his absence to mean there was an issue between the duo.
Kalu is the highest ranking official of the APC from the South East, hence the belief that he was supposed to be on ground to receive such a ‘big fish’ who decamped from his zone.
Details of what the two men discussed during the visit, is not yet in the open as at the time of filing this report.
