Just like what has become a daily occurrence in Nigeria today, six years ago, precisely on the 14th of Febuary 2015, it was not an hidden verity that there was an attack on the city of Gombe, Gombe State Nigeria by the dreaded killer group Boko Haram.
However, what many Nigerians did not know and the media under reported was the Boko Haram invasion of the office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Command [NDLEA] situated at Biu Road, killing and maiming officers and workers in the command.
One of the victims of the insurgence was an officer, Danjuma Wakili Kusaki, the then Deputy Superintendent of Narcotics (officer in charge of patrol), who was shot in the head. Other junior officers like Ibadiaran Wale, Peter Thomas, Aminu Wada, Sylvester Omoarebun, Ambali Quazim etc all were said to have made dialogue with their legs, sprinting and jumping in different directions to escape the unwanted visitors who had sophisticated weapons in their possession.
These officers who hid in the bushes for days, and many more, were dis-organized for a long time seeing the body of a slain officer and couldn’t sum up the courage to return to the office again after witnessing near death experience.
It was said to be sad enough that they were attacked at the place of work, sadder, we gathered is the fact that the they do not feel safe again around the office coupled with the fact that the government has not issued anything on the attack till this present time.
Even, the agency failed till date to make official statement 6 years after the incident.
Why this incident was never on the news remained one question begging for an answer. How sad it is not to have mentioned the name of the officer who was killed by the terrorist or the innocent victims who came to seek shelter at the NDLEA office that were also shot at?
The code of conduct bureau also at Biu Road was not left out of the onslaught as the place was totally destroyed. Why wasn’t this mentioned till now?
It’s been six years since that attack at the NDLEA office Gombe state command and no public statement has been issued by the agency. Boko haram has been known to recently step up attacks on states like Edo State.
