BATTLE FOR FRED AMATA’S JOB: FOUR FILMMAKERS JOSTLE FOR DGN PRESIDENCY

In just 17 days, veteran actor, producer and director, Fred Amata, will step down from his job as President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN.

Already, politicking is in high gear as four Directors battle for the top job of Nollywood’s most prestigious Guild.

Fred Amata, will be leaving the job after two terms which he commenced in 2016. Insiders say his tenure elapsed about April 2020, but the Coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for the Guild to organise elections until now.

Keen Nollywood watchers had initially expected top director Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, to easily step into the saddle, considering the followership he commands in the Guild. Imasuen had narrowly lost to Amata when they both locked horns in 2016 and he is known to still have a large followership in the South East and South South blocs of the Guild. For now, no one has been able to explain why he has shunned the contest this time around.

The four men who are battle ready for January 20, 2021 election, are Kehinde Soaga, MacCollins Chidebe, Yinka Akanbi and Victor Okhai.

Founded in 1999, DGN has so far enthroned five presidents, namely:  Matthias Obahiagbon Fidelis Duker, Bond Emeruwa, Andy Amenechi and the out-going president, Olorogun Fred Amata.

Thebladengr.com will bring you the inside gist, campaign updates and how the contestants will likely perform at the election in our subsequent reports.
