UGANDAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: YOWERI MUSEVENI RE-ELECTED FOR SIXTH TERM

The Ugandan electoral commission, has announced President Yoweri Museveni as President-elect of Uganda. Museveni won a sixth term with 58.64% of the vote, beating his closest rival Bobi Wine who scored 34.83% of the vote.

However, Bobi Wine whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, has rejected the result, alleging widespread fraud.

The electoral commission said voter turnout was at 57.22% of the registered voters.

During the election on Thursday, Ugandan  authorities suspended access to the Internet and social networks, apparently to throw a clog in the wheels of Bobi Wine’s campaign as most of his followers who are mainly youths relied on the internet to rally themselves.

76 years old Museveni, has been in power for 35 years since 1986 when he took power from General Tito Okello as the head of a rebel army.
