Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State on Monday, declared a dusk to dawn curfew in ten Local Government Areas of the state.
It will begin at 6pm and end at 6am daily and affects Orlu, Orsu, Oru East, Oru West, Ideato North, Ideato South, Njaba, Isu, Nwangele and Nkwerre local government areas of Orlu zone.
Trouble allegedly started last Friday, when a soldier and a policeman were allegedly killed at Okporo, Orlu by some security operatives believed to be members if the Eastern Security Network, ESN.
Pandemonium broke out on Monday, when residents of Orlu Local Government Area fled their homes following a sporadic shooting by soldiers and suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its outfit, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The soldiers were alleged to have shot dead 10 people and burnt several houses and shops in reprisal of the alleged killing of one of them.
Governor Uzodinma said the curfew was an interim measure to immediately restore the peace in the area.
