IMO STATE AGN SET TO CELEBRATE AT 20, UNVEILS MASCOT

Come November 26 to 28, 2021, the Imo State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, will roll out  drums to celebrate its 20 years of existence.

The chapter kicked off activities when on Saturday, October 30, 2021, it officially unveiled the Nollywood Imo at 20 years anniversary mascot.

Governor Hope Uzodinma’s Special Adviser on Youth Affairs, Eric Uwakwe, flanked by the sponsor of the event and CEO of Ice Club, Engr. Ifeanyi Emeruwa, and other stakeholders,  unveiled the 34×24 framed Mascot as the official logo for the anniversary program.

In her welcome speech, the state chairman of the AGN,  Dr. Nneoma Ukpabi, appreciated all the stakeholders for being present at the epoch making occasion, and prayed them to support the midwifing of a successful anniversary outing. She also pleaded with every citizen of the state to always be law abiding and to embrace peace for the betterment of Imo State.

Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Eric Uwakwe assured the Nollywood family of Governor Uzodinma’s commitment to positively impact entertainment in the state.

He said “Government stands strongly behind actors and entertainers in the state. His Excellency is committed to changing the narrative in the entertainment subsector.”

Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Amb. Lambert Nnorom, a multiple award winning film director and scriptwriter, stated that all other guilds and associations with links to Nollywood in Imo State were offshoots of the actors guild in the state. Nnorom who is also the first chairman of the AGN in Imo, expressed delight that his dreams for the guild were now coming true.

According to the committee chairman, events lined up for the anniversary celebration include: Hope for Imo AGN Roadshow, Hope for Imo Actors Lectures, competitions among the seven tertiary institutions in the state, film production houses, and AGN groups; in drama, dance and music.

There will also be thanksgiving church services on the final day of the program while the event will climax with a Film Premiere and Awards Night. The event will have the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Dr. Emeka Ejezie Rollas, top Nollywood practitioners and big political players in attendance.

Director of Communications and Public Relations Officer of the Guild in Imo State, Chuma Mmeka in his remarks, revealed that AGN Imo State chapter was already ahead in plans for the welfare of her members as arrangements have been concluded in partnership with the state government to train members of the Guild in various skills needed in the industry come 2022.
