Former Barcelona forward and Paris St. Germain player, Lionel Messi on Monday night, won a record seventh Ballon d’Or.
Messi beat German goal machine Robert Lewandoski to the trophy with Liverpool and Italian playmaker Giorginho placing third.
Messi was crowned at the ceremony in Paris on the night where his greatest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, placed a distant 6th in the world behind Frenchman Karem Benzema(4th) and Mohammed Sallah of Egypt(5th).
Messi helped his former club Barcelona to the Copa Del ray and was highest goal scorer in the La Liga last season before joining PSG. He also won the Copa America with his Argentina national team.
