ANNEXATION OF OSISIOMA NGWA TO BECOME PART OF ABIA SOUTH: LET’S GET THE INFORMATION CORRECTLY

By Onyendi Victor Kelechi

I have come across a publication by Chief Don Ubani titled  “My Simple And Honest Response To Dr Eme Okoro’s Reply And Conveyance Of Threat To My Life From The Quarters Of An Ex-Governor Of Abia State” where he narrated how the  annexation of Osisioma Ngwa LGA to become a part of Abia South  was foiled by Dr Max Nduaguibe it must be appropriate to get the information correctly and avoid deceiving the general public from get the facts and figures of what transpired therein.

In 2012, there was a serious legal tussle between Senator Nkechi Nwaogu and Hon. Emeka Atuma that went as far to the Supreme Court. SENATOR NKECHI NWAOGU V. HON. EMEKA ATUMA & ORS

In The Supreme Court of Nigeria

On Thursday, the 1st day of November, 2012

MUHAMMAD SAIFULLAH MUNTAKA-COOMASIE    Justice of The Supreme Court of Nigeria

SULEIMAN GALADIMA    Justice of The Supreme Court of Nigeria

NWALI SYLVESTER NGWUTA    Justice of The Supreme Court of Nigeria

STANLEY SHENKO ALAGOA    Justice of The Supreme Court of Nigeria

Between

SENATOR NKECHI NWAOGU  Appellant(s)

AND

HON. EMEKA ATUMA

2. INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION

3. PEOPLE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

AND

1. PROGRESSIVE PEOPLES ALLIANCE

2. CHIEF KEVIN CHIMA UGBOAJAH Respondent(s)

Chief Atuma approached the court on the ground that Senator Nkechi Nwaogu then the Senator that was representing Abia Central was not qualified to contest in the Senatorial Election of Abia Central Senatorial District on the ground that Osisioma Ngwa LGA was not a part of  Abia Central Senatorial and because of this her position should be declared vacant.

Senator Nwaogu then, have to marshal out strategies to make sure that Osisioma Ngwa LGA remained an integral part of the Abia despite been advised not to involved in the matter since she have an option of seeking a bye Election as an indigene of Isiala Ngwa South by the leader of the state then, it is one of the major reasons that leader of  Government then see her as not being a product to succeed him but she vehemently rejected the advice and took it upon herself to make sure that Osisioma Ngwa LGA is not annexed to become a part of Abia South.

Although Senator Nkechi Nwaogu is  not interested and can never interfere with the crisis of the other party, it will be a disastrous mistake if she didn’t say anything concerning the annexation of Osisioma Ngwa LGA.

While we acknowledged the effort of Dr Max Nduaguibe, we should also give the story a balanced reportage. Then the question should be, what if then Senator Nkechi Nwaogu decided not approach the Supreme Court since she have been advised not to go to court and have an option of contesting a bye election as indigene of Isiala Ngwa South, would the effort of Dr Max Nduaguibe not be a futility?
