BREAKING! IGP, POLICE TOP BRASS CONVERGE IN UYO, STRATEGISE ON NEW METHODS OF UPHOLDING NATIONAL SECURITY

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc,  has said that the Senior Officers and Retreat holding in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital,will help evolve new roadmap for stabilizing internal security.

The IGP stated this on Tuesday, at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Police retreat and conference declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Conference and Retreat, themed “The New Police Vision: A Roadmap for Stabilizing Internal Security in Nigeria”, is part of efforts by the current Police leadership to collaborate with critical stakeholders in driving a policing vision that would amongst other benefits, avail Police Strategic Managers with contemporary and vantage opportunities to effectively deliver on their mandates. It will also afford the Police leadership the opportunity to identify and set measurable crime fighting agenda for the Force in the year 2022.

IGP Baba also said the retreat will help the Police management to re-strategise on new ways of tackling national security especially in an election year.

The IGP, while assuring the nation of concerted efforts at improving Police service delivery, public safety and crime management in the year 2022 and beyond, expresses belief that the Retreat will help to evolve new pathways to tackling crimes and other law enforcement challenges in the Country.

President Muhammadu Buhari, ably represented by the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, said he was glad that IGP Usman Baba and his management team could come up with the retreat and conference especially at this time when the nation is under threat from various criminal elements, including bandits and kidnappers.

In his remarks, the Governor  of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Governors Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said policing in Nigeria will be much better if handled on a multi-layer formula involving the local government, state and federal levels.

Also speaking, Senate President Dr. Ahmed Lawan, who was represented by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Haliru Jika, applauded the Police for the effort to reposition to tackle the myriads of problems bedeviling the country.

Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo said the House of Representatives will always ensure that it made adequate laws to enhance the job and welfare of the Police.

On his own part, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Udom Emmanuel, while welcoming the Senior Police Officers noted that Akwa Ibom has been a huge supporter of the Nigerian Police in terms of donating equipment and logistics for the Police to carry out their duties.

He said the effort of the state has paid off as it has remained one of the most peaceful in the country.

The event which will end on Wednesday has Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police, and other Heads of Police Formations, in attendance.

The Conference and Retreat is packaged by the Shina Philips-led Matchmakers Consult International – the approved facilitators of the event.
