About 75 universities, over 12,000 athletes and officials have converged at University of Lagos(UNILAG) as the 2022 NUGA games kicked-off on Saturday.
The 2022 NUGA Games kicked off at the University with a match past ceremony and is expected to last for 12 days, from March 16 to March 27.
The events to be competed for include, football, athletics, badminton, hockey, cricket, chess, judo, swimming, karate, squash, handball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, and boxing. The basketball has already gotten underway already.
UNILAG, is hosting the sporting events for the fourth time since its inauguration in 1966.
UNILAG VC, Prof. Ogundipe had disclosed earlier, that the university won the hosting right for 2022 after defeating the University of Jos, scoring 76 points as against the latter’s 66 points.
Meanwhile, the President of Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), Prof Stephen Hamafyelto, has said that delegates for the upcoming World University Games in China will be selected from the participants of NUGA games 2022.
