The Segun Oni Campaign Organization has raised alarm that the deputy governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Otunba Ladi Owolabi narrowly escaped assassination as his convoy was attacked by some thugs suspected to be members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The organization added that some shops belonging to some SDP members were equally vandalized on Tuesday evening.
In a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, Segun Oni Campaign Organization, Mr Jackson Adebayo both incidents happened at the Isato junction in Ado Ekiti where several people sustained injuries.
According to the organization, the deputy governorship candidate of SDP bus was on his way to Okesha around 11 o’clock on Wednesday morning when the APC thugs accosted the bus and dragged both the driver and the occupants of the vehicle out.
The thugs numbering about eight, welding guns, matchets and other dangerous weapons started beating and inflicting injuries on the SDP members as soon as they were dragged out.
The statement further said that immediately after the orgy of violence, the key of the bus was snatched from the driver as the team leader drove the bus away to an unknown destination.
Shortly after the incident, Adebayo stated that two members of the Social Democratic Party who were on a motorcycle, Ismail Jamiu and Saliu Nurudeen who were identified by the APC thugs were equally beaten to a state of coma while passers by who attempted to take the victims to the hospital were also attacked.
“It will be recalled that we’ve raised various alarm concerning the preparation of the governor and the All Progressive Congress leadership to unleash terror in the build-up towards the coming governorship election.
“We have reported to the security agencies but we’ve not seen any positive intervention till now, hence our concern this time around.”
We can understand that the APC resorted to this nefarious activities because they believe the Party can not win in the state again and the only alternative left for Ekiti people is the SDP governorship candidate, Asiwaju Segun Oni hence their attempt to kill and maim to threaten us and the voters.”
“We call on all the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Department of State Security and other security agencies to wade in immediately before the situation degenerate.”
