Former Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne on Wednesday, emerged winner of the PDP Governorship primaries election, held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia.

Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee and former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose announced that Prof. Uche Ikonne got 468 votes to defeat his closest rival Mr Lucky Mayor Igbokwe who got 45 votes.
He also announced that Senator Enyi Abaribe polled 5 votes, Enyinna Nwafor 4 votes, Sampson Orji 4 votes, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu 6 votes, Senator Emma Nwaka 4 votes,Mr Elvis Omerekpe 3 votes, Prof. Greg Ibe 2 votes and Mrs Ezinwanyi Jonah 5 votes, while 8 votes were void.
Earlier in the day, seven of the aspirants including the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Senator Emma Nwaka, Mr Elvis Omerekpe, Prof. Greg Ibe, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Chima Anyaso had withdrawn from the race leaving Mr Lucky Mayor Igbokwe and Mrs Ezinwanyi Jonah in the race with Ikonne.
