NIGERIAN RAPPER, ICE PRINCE LEAVES PRISON AFTER SIX DAYS INCARCERATION

Nigerian rapper, Panshak Zaman, a.k.a. Ice Prince, was on Thursday released on bail from the Ikoyi correctional facility after spending six days.

His lawyer, Folarin Dalmeida, confirmed his release on Friday.

The musician was taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command on September 2 for allegedly assaulting its officer.

He is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on assault, obstructing a policeman from carrying out the Force’s statutory duties, and abduction.

The court had earlier granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and asked him to provide two sureties, further ordering his remand at the Ikoyi correctional facility until he meets the bail conditions.

Dalmeida said the ‘Oleku’ crooner was released on Thursday after the court certified that he had met the bail conditions.

The lawyer said the rapper met the bail conditions before Thursday but his release was delayed due to the verification process.

Said Dalmeida: “Yes, he (Ice Prince) was released yesterday (Thursday). He met the bail conditions even before Thursday but the verification process was what delayed his release”.

The rapper’s trial was billed to start on Wednesday at the magistrate court sitting in the Ajah area of Lagos.

But the court adjourned the case till October 24 after the prosecution counsel said his witnesses did not show up.
