The Honourable Minister of State, Power, Prince Goddy Jedy-Agba, OFR on Thursday, received a delegation from the University of Calabar(Unical), led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi.
The delegation, included a member of the Governing Council, Dr. Richard Orim, the Alumni Relations Officer, Sir Dorncklaimz Enamhe PhD, the University Bursar, Joseph Odum and the Director Audit, Mr Nicholas Agbor.

At the meeting, the VC commended the Minister for nominating Unical as one of the universities to benefit from the federal government’s Energizing Education Programme (EEP).
EEP is a government programme designed to improve electricity in federal universities and teaching hospitals with solar energy solutions.
In the first phase, about 9 federal universities and some teaching hospitals benefitted. Unical and other universities have been selected to benefit in the second phase which has commenced.
Contracts for the solar power project in Unical has been awarded and signed and contractors are set to mobilize to sight soon. The project will take at least 18 months to be completed.
Even though the project’s scope covers more than 300 solar streets lights, the VC specially requested that the Minister intervenes with some solar street lights while waiting for the commencement and completion of the plant to help curb insecurity on campus and improve students reading culture.
The request was immediately granted by the Minister and efforts are now in top gear to mobilize Engineers to the University for the installation of solar street lights.
