Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba-Alkali, has directed the deployment of Commissioners of Police and Deputy Commissioners of Police to different senatorial districts and police commands across the nation, to maintain security, ahead of the presidential elections slated for Saturday, The PUNCH reports.
Baba directed the officers to resume at their duty posts latest Tuesday, February 21 and exhibit the highest sense of professionalism and neutrality in their conduct before, during and after the voting exercise.
The police wireless message, exclusively obtained by our correspondent, was signed and stamped by the Force Secretary and the IG department of ICT, Force communications section.
It noted: “Officers must exhibit highest sense of professionalism and neutrality in all their conduct before, during and after the exercise. This supersedes all earlier signals relayed,” the document read in part.
The circular, dated February 19, 2023, showed that the CP Ogun Command, Frank Mba was posted to supervise the exercise in Ogun Central Senatorial District, while the CP Lagos Command, Idowu Owohunwa would supervise election security in Lagos West Senatorial District.
Other CPs on the list included – Aliyu Haruna in-charge of Adamawa North, Yusuf Akeem to Taraba South, Taiwo Adeleke to Nasarawa South, Godwin Aghaulor to Katsina Central, and Lanre Sikiru to Rivers West, amongst others.
The DCPs amongst others, included – Abbas Sule, deployed to Jigawa North West, Rashid Afegbua to Plateau North, Mary Okereke to Cross River Central, Margaret Ochalla to Kogi Central, Auwal Musa to Sokoto North.
