Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and seven months governor of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has stepped down from the PDP governorship primaries in the state.

Ihediaoha communicated his withdrawal in a letter addressed to the Party’s Secretariat on Monday.
Ihedioha said he was sacrificing his ambition in the interest of the party in the state. He also stated that he supports the quest if the party to present a “consensus” candidate in the November 2023 election.
Ihedioha’s “sacrifice”, may not be unconnected to the vote of confidence given to his kinsman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu by the Mbaise nation comprising Aboh, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte Mbaise LGAs.
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court on January 14, 2020, sacked Ihedioha and declared Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of Imo State. Many have since believed that he would return to reclaim the mandate in the coming election.
