MCSN MOURNS VETERAN MUSICIAN, CHRIS MBA

The Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria, MCSN, has commiserated with the music industry and lovers of music over the death of veteran musician, Chris Mba.

In a statement signed by the Managing Director of MCSN, Mr. Mayo Ayilaran, the copyright society said it received with sadness the news of the passage of Mr. Chris Mba, who died on Wednesday, 3rd May 2023.

Extolling the late musician, Ayilaran said, “Chris Mba was one of the early members of MCSN who joined the Society in 1991, and he participated actively in most MCSN’s activities, especially at a period when MCSN was struggling to get approved by the Nigerian Copyright Commission.”

Continuing, he said that “Chris Mba was also involved in the politics and activities of the Performing Musicians’ Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) having been part of the people that actively participated in the formation of PMAN way back in 1984. He was instrumental and party to the contact and drafting of Charly Boy to become the President of PMAN n 2003.”

While praying God to console the family, friends and associates he left behind and rest his soul, Ayilaran said that although Chris Mba took a back seat when his health started to face challenges, he kept on working to see a formidable music industry and enduring structures emerge in Nigeria.

Chris may not have taken the front page in the emergence of the Nigerian music industry as a huge economic sector, but he has been a major participant and contributor who would be difficult to ignore or forget”, Ayilaran concluded.
