10TH SENATE: PLOT TO ARREST OJUGBOH, ONAIWU, OTHER TOP YARI/KALU CAMPAIGNERS UNCOVERED

The battle for who becomes the president of the Senate when President Tinubu proclaims the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday, has reached a crescendo.

Insiders say the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is not leaving any stone unturned in the bid to install candidates approved by the party’s national working committee, NWC and the presidency.

The presidency and the NWC have narrowed the race to former Akwa Ibom State governor, Sen. Godswill Akpabio as their preferred candidate for the president of the senate. But majority of the APC senators on Monday, have signed for the Sen. Abdulazziz Yari/Orji Kalu ticket.

To forestall any surprises, particularly the emergence of Yari, thebladengr.com learnt that plans are afoot to arrest the campaigners of the former Zamfara governor and his supporters at least on a temporary basis until the candidates of the party has emerged.

Yari/Kalu ticket is said to boast of over 62 senators as at Monday morning, which is giving the APC leadership a nightmare. Consequently, the party is finding ways to stop the ticket to avoid the “Saraki situation” of 2015.

Our source also stated that former NDDC executive director, Dr. Cairo Ojugboh and former NGF DG, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu who are spearheading the campaign tor the Yari/Kalu ticket from outside, are particularly targeted for arrest.

President Tinubu had endorsed the Akpabio ticket alongside his vice, Alhaji Kashim Shettima. But the party’s choice had been challenged by several senators leading to the emergence of the Yari/Kalu ticket.
