POPULAR NIGERIAN JAZZ MUSICIAN, MIKE APPOH DIES IN LONDON AT 71

Nigeria’s popular Jazz musician, Michael Appoh, is dead.

The musician, popularly known as Micro Mike Appoh, ruled the jazz music scene many years ago and made music with superstars like Don Jazzy, Solek and others in London.

Michael Appoh, a multi-instrumentalist and holder of the traditional title of Ajidagba of Ode-Itsekiri(Warri), died at St. Mary’s Paddington, London on Saturday, July 15, 2023 following a protracted illness.

On his 71st birthday, Micro Mike had hinted on his long illness when he wrote on his social media handle, “At 71 who am l to complain. Thank you father for continuing to care for me on Dialysis for 18 years. It can only be a blessing from above. Amen.”

Micro Mike, an expert on the Saxophone was also noted for his pulsating performances on stage and rich baritone voice.

In 2021, Micro Mike alongside singer Monica Omorodion Swaida, popularly known as “Monicazation” released a soulful reggae single in memory of his friend and late raggae legend, Majek Fashek, titled “Majek Fashek, I remember you!”
