JUST IN! SUPREME COURT JUDGE, CHIMA NWEZE DIES AT 64

A judge of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Centus Chima Nweze, is dead.

Justice Nweze reportedly died on Sunday after a brief illness. He was aged 64 years.

Justice Nweze trended in the year 2020 when he stood out during the ruling on the application filed by Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of Imo state. Ihedioha who had asked the Supreme court to review its judgement on his removal from office.

While majority of the seven-man panel disagreed with him, Chima Nweze, found merit in the application. In his dissenting judgment, Nweze asked the court to set aside the January 14, 2020 judgment that removed Ihedioha from office, describing it as a nullity and in bad faith.

He also nullified the declaration of Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor on account of “wrong declaration” and held that Uzodinma misled the court into unjust conclusion with the unverified votes in 388 polling units.

A native of Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon. Justice Nweze was born on September 25, 1958.

A practising Christian of the Roman Catholic Denomination, he is married to Hon Justice Ugonne Jacinta Nweze of the Enugu State Judiciary. Their union is blessed with five children and a grandchild.
