The military junta in Niger Republic has cut off ties with Nigeria, France, Togo and the United States of America.
This comes on the heels of a failed diplomatic move by President Tinubu and the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) to resolve the ongoing impasse.
Radio France International on Friday, quoted one of the coup leaders as making the announcement on Niger national Television. The soldier was reported to have said: “The functions of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of Niger” to France, Nigeria, Togo and the United States are terminated,”
Recall that ECOWAS had issued a seven-day ultimatum for the reinstatement of President Mohamed Bazoum to avoid possible clash with the junta.
As a follow up, President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, sent a high-powered delegation to the country to meet with the coup leaders.
The delegation led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) only met with representatives of the junta.
