The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has reiterated her administration’s commitment towards protecting the hard earned reputation the Institution has built over the years.
A statement signed by the Public Relation’s Unit revealed that Prof. Florence Obi stated this when she received a delegation from the Federal Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Cross River State Office, in her office on Tuesday 15th August, 2023.
She said it was imperative for the Institution to stand for what is true, fair and right, stressing that, the recent incident involving students of faculty of law and the myriads of complaints about the Dean is worrisome and disturbing.
She noted that as an institution, her administration will leave no stone unturned to get to the root of the issues as raised by the aggrieved students, adding that, the Management of the University was on-top of the situation.
Even as she commended the students for speaking out, the Vice Chancellor said as a mother, it is saddening to see one’s daughter molested or harassed, noting that, because it is a matter of public interest, the University will take a holistic look at the situations with a view to making an informed decision following due process.
This came as she said her administration has committed both human and financial resources towards helping female and male students through the establishment of a Gender Center , and the Youth friendly Hub.
Speaking earlier, the Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Obi Steve Owan said their visit was informed by the recent development involving students protest of alleged molestation and harassment from a Senior Lecturer that is trending on social media.
He said they were in the University to know the true state of the situation from the University authorities and the level of investigations going on, if there is any, at the moment.
The PCC Federal Commissioner, was accompanied by other top officers of the Commission on the visit.
