The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to the Alumni Relations Officer of the school, Ntol Sir Dorn Cklamiz, Phd in Calabar, Cross River State.
Thebladengr.com learnt that the visit was to introduce the new exco of the SUG to the Alumni Relations Officer as well as deliberate on issues concerning the students and the university.
The student entourage comprised of the SUG President, Kichi-Akwo God’sgift, Vice President – Precious Zion, Secretary General – Ayambem Genesis Ogar, Deputy Secretary General, Achong Benedict Edem, Director of Welfare, Bawa Terna, Director of Information, Olayemi David Mayowa, Director of Sports, Sekav Diogo Abednego Pele, Director of Socials, Okpoke Joshua and Financial Secretary, Gloria Charles.
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Enamhe praised the unique composition of the SUG executives and its national outlook. He also commended the Vice Chancellor Professor Florence Banku-Obi for not interfering in union elections and students activities.
Dr. Enamhe also implored the students to work hard on redeeming the public reputation of their beloved UNICAL. While acknowledging that UNICAL has in recent time been unfairly identified with negative perceptions, he passionately discussed ways to challenge and change these perceptions.
Dr. Enamhe exuding pride, told the students that UNICAL alumni have been playing key roles in the Nigerian government in recent time. He recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari had three (3) Malabites as Ministers, namely-Chief Umana Okon Umana (Niger Delta), Mr Joseph Ekumakaba (Minister State health) and Senator Godswill Akpabio(Minister of Niger Delta Affairs).
“The incumbent President of the Federal Republic, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, Enamhe said, “also has three (3) Malabites as Ministers, namely-Minister of Humanitarian Affairs & Poverty Alleviation- Dr Betta Edu, (a former Vice President of the Student Union Government), Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh, (former Senator in the Malabor Parliament and active member of the Malabor World Cup series), Mr. Ekperipe Ekpo Minister of State Petroleum, (gas). There is also the Senate President in the person of Senator Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.”
“UNICAL also has Maj Gen EPU Undiandeye, Director Defence Intelligence and Maj. General Ejim Emekarh, Director Military Operations,” Enamhe stated.
University of Calabar according to Papa D.C has three (3) Deputy Governors, HE Rt. Hon Peter Odey former Senator and President of NACRISS in the SUG who is now Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, Deputy Governor Akwa Ibom state and Deputy Governor Delta State, Chief (Sir) Monday John Onyeme, not forgetting the incumbent Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu (a former President of NACRISS before the creation of Akwa Ibom State).
Also in attendance at the event were Associate Professor (Chief) German Anagbogu, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) and Prof. Walter Mboto, former HOD Dept. of Social Work.
