FORMER ABIA GOVERNOR, DR. OKEZIE IKPEAZU APPOINTED MEMBER, ADVISORY BOARD OF NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, NSBMB

Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has been appointed as a member of the advisory body of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, NSBMB.

The notice of appointment was conveyed to Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in a letter dated 20th September, 2023 and signed by the President of the Association, Prof. Matthew Owhonda Wegwu. 

According to the letter, “Dr. Ikpeazu’s appointment was informed by your age-long commitment to the growth and development of NSBMB and the wealth of experience acquired in your selfless service to the nation in different capacities”.

The 27-member Advisory Body has eminent professors and scholars of Biochemistry, chaired by Professor Abubakar Kaoje and includes other eminent Nigerians notably, theTor Tiv, His Royal Highness, Prof. James Ayatse, Nigeria’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwiliri, Prof. Obi Njoku, Prof. Adenike Kuku, Prof. Arabi Shehu, Prof. A. O. Shodipo, Prof. (Rev. Fr.) Madu, Prof. Zaruwa Nsuk among others. 

Ikpeazu, who was filled with joy, expressed his appointment to the Board as a reaffirmation of his long-standing commitment to the study and instruction of Chemistry. He pledged to collaborate closely with his fellow Board members, including some who had once been his teachers, in order to promote the progress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Nigeria.

Recall that Dr. Ikpeazu had while serving as the governor of Abia State co-authored a seminal book in Biochemistry; a rare feat combined with the herculean task of governance and eloquent proof that he is a determined and dedicated scholar and lover of education. 

Already, Sir Okey Ahiwe, the PDP guber candidate in the Abia 2023 governorship election, and his running mate, Dr. Jasper Uche, the State Chairman Abia PDP, Rt. Hon. Dr. Alwell Asiforo Okere as well as the Abia PDP family has congratulated the former Abia chief executive on the appointment.
