Delta State on Saturday, amassed 116 medals to emerge champions at the 2023 National Youth Games (NYG).
Team Delta State dominated events in their home ground at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, bagging 51 gold, 34 silver and 31 bronze medals to win a record 7th consecutive championship having won all the editions of the youth games since inception in Abuja in 2013.
The team was two medals better than the last edition in Ilorin which they won with 114 medals after bagging 60 gold, 26 silver, and 28 bronze medals.
Team Lagos State came second with a total of 61 medals comprising 21 gold, 19 silver and 21 bronze while Edo State came third with 21 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals.
The National Youth Games is a national competition, created for young athletes who are 15 years and under. Over 4000 young athletes participated in the 2023 games tagged “Asaba 2023”.
