TROUBLE LOOMS AT STERLING BANK’S GREENBAY ESTATE LEKKI AS RESIDENTS POISE FOR WAR WITH MANAGEMENT OVER BUILDING DEFECT, POOR LIVING CONDITIONS

Residents of the Sterling Bank financed  highbrow Green Bay Estate, Lekki, Lagos, are poised for a serious showdown with the management of the estate, Springview Services, over what they termed “unbearable living conditions and ineffective estate management”, in the housing estate.

The residents are seriously angry that it seems they bought a lie from the building managers because of the several structural defects not open to them when they were buying or renting the apartments until they moved in only to realise how bad  the situation is, in the estate.

The residents who recently met again with the management few days ago to make their grievances known for the umpteenth time, were disappointed yet again because solution to the myriad of problems that is affecting them seems not to be in sight; at least for now, making  them wonder why a reputable financial institution like Sterling Bank can be involved in such low quality construction like what they have there.

According to many of the residents, despite writing several letters and having series of meetings with the estate managers, they are still subjected to many ill treatment that is frustrating daily living in their individual apartments.

One of the major problems in the estate is said to be water. According to residents, water, aside being unavailable in the posh estate, the little one that comes out of the tap is very corrosive, coloured and badly smelling  dangerous water which has damaged clothes, kitchen wares, water closets, and many others. It has even resulted to many residents nursing skin rashes, not to talk of high cost of laundry and the daily frustrating cost of buying water to be able to live like normal humans.

If provision of portable water is seen as a big issue, rain water has become another major problem in the estate to the extent that whenever it rains, many of the residents will also be crying because of how many buildings will become soaked with rain water inside their apartments. Water is said to penetrate their buildings through the roof, decking and windows even when closed. This has resulted in many slipping and getting injured in the process that they feared it could ultimately result in death one day, if extra care is not taken.

Power supply is  another major issue in the estate. The residents complain that the monopoly created by the management that provide electricity has made the tariff ridiculously high that its never an exaggeration to say its about the most expensive in any part of the state. Electricity, they said, is used to extort huge amount from them daily. According to them, power is not only irregular, it has contributed to damaging several electrical gadgets with sudden and incessant switch overs.

While the residents are still crying over the high tariff, the management has also communicated their plan to increase the money come October 10 which the residents have vowed to resist because with the high tariff before, it could only power one horsepower air conditioner for two hours before a hundred units will be exhausted.

Apart from these, the apartments are fitted with inferior kitchen cabinet which on many occasions have fallen apart, while the walls are also peeling which suggests the buildings were not well constructed.

The residents allege, that they are forbidden from subscribing on their own to any cable television provider like DSTV. They are also forced to use  a particular internet service orivider among other issues. This they claim was not stated when they were buying or renting the property in the first place.

According to our source, the residents are now poised for legal war with the managers should the estate managers fail to heed to their demands this time around.
