The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has asked Nigerians to forgive young actress, Mercy Isoyip (Descushiel) for muddling up the National Anthem at the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police officers in Owerri, Imo State.
IGP Egbetokun said he was convinced the actress bungled her job due to “stage fright.” The IGP spoke on Wednesday, while addressing officers at the conference.
The IGP said, “I was initially taken aback by her performance while rendering the national anthem, but when the organizers later briefed me on why she was chosen to sing the anthem, I was better informed.”
IGP Egbetokun explained that the actress was contracted by the organizers to sing the National anthem as a way of encouraging young Nigerian artistes to showcase their talents.
He further stated that the actress has shown a high level of remorse for her mistake and has even gone ahead to tender an apology to the Police and Nigerians.
IGP Egbetokun said the actress will be invited again by the force to sing and correct her mistakes.
Recall that Descushiel on Monday became hot topic when she bungled the National Anthem while live on over five national TV stations. Her woeful performance led to knocks from Nigerians after a clip of the event went viral.
But on Tuesday, the actress who is also a singer went on the social media to apologize for her error. In a video on her Instagram page, Descushiel begged the Police Force and Nigerians in general to forgive her error.
