FMR. CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, GEN. CHRIS ALI DIES AT 79

A former Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen Chris Ali is dead. He died in Lagos on Sunday at a military hospital at the age of 79.

According to a statement by Army spokesperson, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu “The COAS Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja on receiving the disheartening news of his demise, has profoundly expressed his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Late former COAS, praying for the repose of his soul and the strength and solace for the family in this difficult time,”

The late army general, was governor of Plateau State on two different occasions.

He first served as military governor of the state between August 1985 to 1986.

He was Chief of Army Staff from 1993 to 1994 under General Sanni Abacha’s regime.

Born on December 1, 1944 in Koton Karfe in Kogi State, General Ali, served briefly again as Sole Administrator of Plateau State between May 18, 2004 and November 2004, when President Olusegun Obasanjo declared a state of emergency on Plateau State.
