NIGERIAN FILM CORPORATION HOLDS TRAINING WORKSHOP ON ARCHIVAL PRACTICES AND PRESERVATION OF AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIALS

A two-weeks’ training workshop on archival practices and preservation of audio-visual materials organized by the Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC) has commenced in Jos. Venue for the workshop is the National Film, Video and Sound Archive (NFVSA) also in Jos, Plateau State.

The workshop, with participants drawn from the NFC, NFVSA, University of Jos, the Master Degree Programme in Film Culture & Archiving Studies and the National Film Institute; under the following rubrics – Film Handling; Film Scanning; Archive Management & Cataloging started on January 20th and will end on February 2nd, 2024.

The training workshop is facilitated by a robust Faculty of Resource Persons from Germany led by Markus Ruff of the Arsenal Institute for Film & Video Art, Berlin. Other members of the resource persons are Alo Paistik, Maia Pereira and Lisabona Rahman, experts in film restoration, digitization, preservation and archiving.

The training workshop, is intended to upscale participant’s skills and knowledge level in modern day Film Handling; Film Scanning; Archive Management and Cataloging, as part of NFC’s mandate execution and its efforts in addressing the manpower expertise of the NFVSA, which has been designated the National Repository for Nigeria’s audio-visual heritage. 

Aside NFC, other partners in the mounting of the training workshop are: – Arsenal Institute for Film & Video Art, Berlin; University of Jos, Goethe University and the Deutsches Filminstitut Filmmuseum, Germany.
