CRISIS HITS EDO APC AS TWO GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES EMERGE

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress is currently facing an upheaval as the governorship primaries of the party produced two different candidates on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Governor Hope Uzodimma, who served as chairman of the APC primary election committee, had declared a House of Representatives member, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the winner of the primary election at the Protea Hotel.

But few hours after, Mr. Stanley Ugboaja acting as The Returning Officer, declared Senator Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of another primary election.

Ugboaja, who said Okpebholo won with 12,145 votes, claimed he was the right person to announce the result.

“I am the right person to declare the results of this primary election but unfortunately I was not allowed to finish the announcement. We will continue the announcement here (Ize-Iyamu residence).

“Having scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Senator Okpebholo the winner of the election,” he added.

Supporting Ugboaja, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Peter Uwadiae, described the announcement by Uzodimma as illegal and urged the party hierarchy and APC members to disregard the Imo Governor’a action.
