The executives of the Police Community Relations Committee, Ikeja branch on Wednesday 21st at Ikeja paid a courtesy visit to the new Divisional Police Officer of Ikeja Division, CSP Akinwunmi Oke.
The Community Police support body was received by the Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Akinwunmi Oke at the Police Divisional Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The PCRC team led by their Patron, Otunba Antony Isaac, and accompanied by Hon. Member Aremo Ademola Olukayode, Chairman Chief Tony Obi, and Vice Chairman A.K Ogunlana, expressed their appreciation by remarking that the CSP’s open door policy is a welcome development and acknowledges it will go a long way in aiding the police as the community members will feel unrestricted and at ease to share information with the Police.
The Chairman of the Committee, Chief Tony Obi articulated his confidence in the new DPO as he pointed out that his commitment and tenacity when he was Head of Operations at Rapid Response Squad (RRS) did not go unnoticed as he combated crime all over Lagos, most especially in Ikeja.
“We were happy when we realized you were the new DPO in Ikeja because of your crime-bursting prowess when you were the Head of Operations at RRS, we usually see you virtually everywhere and thus knew we were fortuitous to have you fully with us as our DPO. We also want to assure you of our support always when the need arises. “- Chief Tony said.
CSP Akinwunmi Oke in his gratitude speech, expressed his utmost appreciation to the team for showing him support since he assumed office as the DPO and promised not to relent in his duties, part of which is to rid Ikeja of criminal elements while he maintains peace and security. He also noted that his door is always open for information from the public that will assist the police in carrying out their functions.
He pointed out that the PCRC is a committee that the police don’t joke with and he is ready to work hand in hand with them to ensure safety and security in the community.
Let it be recalled that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fayoade Adegoke, soon after his assumption of office in December 2023, redeployed senior police officers in the state with intelligence and technical proficiency to hold forts in strategic police formations and divisions to ensure peace and stability in the State.
