PROPHETESS… SPORTS BETTING OR JUST SILLY COMEDY?(FILM REVIEW)

By Mava John Joshua

In the days of yore, adults (especially working and married men play what then was a popular BET called a ‘pool” or “coupon”) and this was mainly played by mature men ( though this set of people were termed irresponsible because most times they hardly win and spend their fortunes going about unrepentantly), and they still keep on trying perhaps one day they might be lucky.

In this kind of betting, the person will do a lot of “permutations and combination” while looking at past history of both teams he is about to stake for, here he seeks for only games that will end as a draw either barren or otherwise to any football match being played in the mostly the lower division of the English Premier league in England only.

Now, the betting options have gone beyond this with many available chances, stakes and platforms to win money have been put in place, and this has covered different games in all countries where sports exist, Live betting is now in play

A dedicated “coupon” slip was mainly used then, now one can bet online and even “cash out” before the game ends.

This movie can be said to be totally unbelievable in the sense that we see a blend of Spirituality mixed with betting success, not unbelievably good, just plain and full of assumed comic where humour is trying to be made but too far fetched

The movie gave us, an over flogged rhetoric mess. It should have been named betting twist, all the writer really wanted to do was twist the plot, over and over and over again till you begin to remember that the entire movie is a lie typical of Niyi Akinmolayan, as in his movie: SET UP

How can you justify a situation where a seeming prophetess predicts a match and every element works towards the team winning? This is an extreme fallacy, unreal and impossible knowing fully well you might not know anything about the team and its administrations, but here we see a situation where a new couch has to be sourced for and even players so the game that bet was placed on by the prophetes ends up coming through, an irony to football really.

The movie begins with massive prayers of exorcism going on for a to be politician needing prayers to win an election, smokes from incense darkens the church, after which they all begin to feast in alcohol after confusing and taking advantage of its victim, the prediction led to the popularity of Prophetess Ajoke Olotoo (Toyin Abraham) with her crony or accomplice Malaika (Adedimeji Lateef).

Dipo (Kunle Remi), an only child was taking to see the prophetess for cleansing by Tinuke’s friends (Dipo’s mothers) when she was lamenting that the father by name Romeo absconded to Liberia and refused to return hence the reason for the boys promiscuity and gluttony meanwhile Iya Ibeji (Ronke Ojo) and Shalewan (Tina Mba) were on hand to see how they can assist and suggested going spiritual

Furthermore in one of the days of her spiritual gymnastics, she made some predictions about Arsenal wining the champions’ league and the winner of the Big Brother Naija which she predicted correctly, while having a session of prayers ignorantly online with a television reality show during an instagram live session with Dipo, an On-Air personality (OAP) and social media influencer

The movie was Produced by Victoria Akujobi, Mimi Bartels, Matilda Sola and Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan

In conclusion, the movie which is an assumed sport comedy was way too exaggerated and over hyped and one wonders if the movie was about betting or the prophetess?

Falsehood and ambiguous rhetoric with no proper lesson to take home reign supreme in the movie, because the whole dialogue was uninspiring, no lessons learnt to reflect the level of falsehood we see in the society where seers parade around the place predicting fallacies everywhere.

We see a twist where the whole church activities now becomes a situation where players, coaches and other logistics activity carried out within a twinkle of an eye to form a formidable team that defeats its opponent just to make a prediction come through

In a nutshell, if betting is like this, then we will all be billionaires.
