The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Mr Balogun Mojeed Alabi has received the newly appointed Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Ikeja Division, CSP Akinwunmi Oke at the Local Government Secretariat in Ikeja today.
The courtesy visit which lasted about an hour was in commeration of the DPO who is a familiar face not just to the Chairman and members of staff of the Local Government, but to the entire residents of Ikeja area due to the previous posts he held in the Police Force.
Alabi described CSP Oke as an astute officer who is known to be proactive in his dealings as the former Ops Officer of the Rapid Response Squad who is swift to respond to distress calls not just in Ikeja but in Lagos State as a whole.
“It is a indeed an added advantage to all of us in Ikeja having you as the DPO in our constituency because we are very much aware of your track record and achievements which we are very sure will be replicated as you go about combating crime in this axis. We welcome you and we pray that your tenure here will yield positive results all round.”
The Chairman further appealed to CSP Oke to key into the Policing with human face initiative which has long been a tradition in Ikeja and has proven to yield positive results overtime. He appealed to Oke not to underestimate the dividends of stake holders engagement as it is a veritable tool that can be utilized to attain a crime free Ikeja.
CSP Oke thanked the Chairman and his management team for the warm reception and show of love and promised to hit the ground running as he assumes office in Ikeja. He assured the Chairman that community policing which is one of the major techniques in policing will be heavily adopted by him.
“Stakeholder engagement and community policing is not new to me. We achieved success through it in the past and i am confident it will help us achieve more results here in Ikeja. I have carried out confidence building patrols and identified with some residents who have promised to say something when they see something in order to keep Ikeja safe and secure”.
Oke further assured the Chairman that he would work round the clock to ensure that his mandate of achieving and sustaining a safe and secure Ikeja is not undermined by any criminal element. He disclosed that he has hit the ground running and identified locations inhabited by men of the underworld which will be cleared out in no time.
Oke promised to carry out periodic meetings with residents and stakeholders to help achieve the laid down goals as the job of securing the environment is a collective one.
