ENUGU RANGERS CELEBRATE CHRISTIAN CHUKWU ON 50TH ANNIVERSARY AS ITS PLAYER

Rangers International Football Club Enugu is  set to celebrate its living football legend Christain Chukwu MFR in commemoration of his 50th anniversary as Rangers player/captain (1974 to 2024).

The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, March 28th, 2024 at Amadeo Event Centre, near Ebeano Tunnel, Enugu.

Briefing journalists on the ceremony which is to be preceded by a novelty football match by 10am of the same Thursday March 28th, 2024 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu, the Chairman, Organising Committee, Mr Chris( Gisto) Mma, noted that the celebration would be grand and exciting.

Mr Mma commended the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, for his apt intervention in rehabilitation of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium stressing that this absolutely demonstrates his love for Sports and thousands of fans of Rangers.

The Organising Committee Chairman said that the teeming supporters and residents of Enugu state will have opportunity of watching Rangers home matches.

He also observed that the Governor is the Chief Host of the occasion while the Host is Rangers International Football Club.

According to him: “eminent personalities from all walks of life are expected to attend the celebration of a great football player and coach of many national teams and clubs including Nigeria, Chairman Christian Chukwu.

The five South East Governors, President -General, Ohaneze Ndigbo world wide, great footballers of his time, Chief Segun Odegbami, Emmanuel Okala, Barr. Adokie Amasiemeka, Stanley Okoronkwo and Dr Jonny Egbonu are expected to grace the occasion.

Others are: Barr. Okezie Nwanjoku, who is expected to chair the event, the minister of Sports, Umoh Enoh, the President Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)Musa Yusuf and some Chairmen of States Football Associations.

Also, speaking at the press briefing, the General manager of Rangers International Football Club, Barr Amaobi Ezeaku, disclosed that the biography of Christain Chukwu: The Field Marshall, written by prolific writer and Sports journalist of repute, Mr Ogechukwu Ajuzie, would be launched at the occasion.

He pointed out that Christain Chukwu has contributed immensely towards development of football in the state, nation and Africa stressing that there was absolute need to celebrate him.

It would be recalled that Chukwu reigned and retired in the glorious era of the nation’s local football league and also transcended that time.

This certainly, underscores the complexity of the man, who undoubtedly, is one of the most outstanding African Football Legends of all time and who is still relevant in Nigeria football today as he was for over four decades ago when he stopped play.
