VETERAN THEATRE DIRECTOR, WOLE OGUNTOKUN DIES IN CANADA

Playwright, theatre director and veteran thespian, Wole Oguntokun is dead.

Oguntokun reportedly died in Canada on Wednesday after a brief illness.

Oguntokun who has been a major figure in contemporary Nigerian theater for over 15 years, is the artistic director of the Renegade Theatre. Jis works include directing a Yoruba version of The Winter’s Tale in London’s Globe theater as part of the Shakespeare Olympiad.

He became the first Nigerian producer and director to present a play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he directed his own piece, “The Waiting Room.”

Oguntokun holds master’s degrees in law and humanitarian refugee studies from the University of Lagos.
