WHEN THERE IS NEED TO HIRE A WOMAN(MOVIE REVIEW)

By Mava John Joshua

A nerd is a person seen as overly intellectual, obsessive, introverted, or lacking social skills. Such a person may spend inordinate amounts of time on unpopular, little known, or non-mainstream activities, which are generally either highly technical, abstract, or relating to niche topics such as science fiction or fantasy, to the exclusion of more mainstream activities. Additionally, many so-called nerds are described as being shy, quirky, pedantic, and unattractive, some become very successful in there callings but overly not to social with their environment or people

This movie revolves around Jide (Uzor Arukwe) who after six years of graduation and doing well at his job but lacks every thing comes to socialization

In the tertiary institutions, apart from learning your direct discipline for which you were admitted to study, it is expected that other activities occur, we come in (some as teenagers others already mature and have seen what life presents), we are told as we go through school, the school should go through us also.

As one grows into adulthood, we are supposed to see some levels of confidence that it brings in especially going through an academic environment, we are to fraternize and make some relationships that might later in the future blossom into marriages or unforgettable friendships and companionship.

Furthermore, some cliques form ”diamonds bonds” that can never be separated or become oblivious, but we still see a livid man when it comes to mundane things that even his colleagues: Teni (Nancy Isime) and Zainab (Grace-Charles Bassey) at work noticed. This lack of confidence is evidenced when he did not show up in one of his schoolmates’ Nat (Mike Godson) and Zainab (Belindah Effah) dinner for an engagement despite making his colleagues stand in at his absence

We see Jide telling his colleagues how Toyosi (Uche Nwafuna) was his ex and he is finding it had to move on with his life, her thoughts keeps on resurfacing, Teni and Zainab were appalled by this information, realizing that she had just used him the entire time they were together to boost her grades. They vow to devise a plan that will enable Jide to go for the trip (a get together for his former mates pre-wedding party) while getting back at Toyosi and the ultimate plan was to hire a woman to be Jide’s girlfriend, and also give him a makeover and training so he can be upgraded to what is assumed to be a man that has been transformed after the break up in school.

He is to be coached by his female colleague to be less “nerdy” and assume maturity during this period and be more macho and confident. They try to transform his style, cadence and demeanor before the trip. With Teni present to guide him and put him through as well accompanying him, it was assumed things would go as planned.

The unexpected happened when Nifemi, Toyosi’s best friend and the mastermind of the getaway and the travel planner fall for him, each other now becomes suddenly attracted to each other, a situation that suddenly changes the trajectory of the movie.

Two adults and classmates suddenly could not sleep as a result of reasons which for me are too obvious to understand and this results to feelings of emotions for one another, is that how one falls in love?

My expectation was that they will only talk about the past and then perhaps lay low when both know very well that there was a relationship going on or do I say the naivety of Jide or jealousy of Nifemi sparked the relationship?

During the build up for the getaway, I wonder if just a few weeks of training in the gym that produce so much macho as portrayed?

The above are begging for answers

Finally, for me the plot seems interesting; it can make for great drama and humour, its very enticing anyway, the efforts of the actors to bring their characters to life shows,

Not a bad moment to spare about 100mins of your time on.

The movie was produced and directed by Chinneylove Eze and Ifeanyi Ikpoaneyi respectively.
